Seek PTSD Treatment at our Practice on the Gold Coast

When people go through extremely stressful or traumatic events in life, the effects can last well into the long term. If you think you or a loved one is suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), seeking support from a professional is the first step to take.

What is post-traumatic stress disorder?

(PTSD) is a form of anxiety where a person feels intense helplessness, fear, horror or other similar emotions after struggling through an extremely stressful or traumatic period of their life. This could be a car accident, natural disasters, war, physical or sexual assault, or anything else that threatened their safety or the safety of those around them.
What are the signs and symptoms of PTSD?

Those with PTSD often suffer from high levels of panic or fear, which can sometimes reflect and be similar to how they felt at the time. This disorder is often accompanied by other mental health issues such as depression, and there are four major associated difficulties:

  • Re-living trauma – Memories of traumatic and stressful events are recurring, sometimes manifested in vivid imagery or nightmares. This can result in both emotional and physical symptoms, including stress, terror, sweating and chest pounding.
  • Excessively wound up or on edge – Difficulty sleeping and concentrating, highly irritable, easily scared or startled and always looking out for danger.
  • Feeling emotionally numb – Lack of interest in activities previously enjoyed, along with daily tasks. Emotionally detached from loved ones.
  • Avoiding reminders of the event – Going to lengths to avoid thoughts, feelings, conversations, activities, people or places associated with the source of trauma.
