Mood, Anxiety, Trauma & Personality Assessment on the Gold Coast

When feelings are hard to pin down, several things can tangle together at once. Our assessments help adults, adolescents and children understand the full picture — what’s really going on with mood, anxiety, trauma and personality, and what will genuinely help. We look at the whole person, not just one symptom. See us in person at our Bundall clinic, or by telehealth where that suits you better.

The Personality Assessment Inventory (PAI) professional manual — mood, anxiety, trauma and personality assessment on the Gold Coast

What this assessment involves

This is a structured, evidence-based process designed to bring clarity — gently and thoroughly. It usually starts with an unhurried clinical interview, so we can understand your history, your current experience and what matters most to you. Alongside that, we use validated psychological questionnaires and measures that look at mood (such as depression), anxiety, the effects of trauma, and personality style. These tools help us see patterns that can be hard to spot from the inside.

Because these areas often overlap, we take care to weigh up the different factors and how they interact, rather than jumping to a single explanation. You then receive a clear written report, in plain language, with a diagnosis where one is appropriate and practical recommendations tailored to you.

Assessment for adults, adolescents and children

We tailor the process to each stage of life, so it feels right for the person in front of us.

Adults

This is often for complex or long-standing difficulties, or when several things feel tangled together and hard to separate. It can help with questions about personality, or offer a considered second opinion when a diagnosis or treatment hasn’t quite fit. The aim is clarity that points you towards support that actually works.

Adolescents

For teens, we look at low mood, anxiety, the effects of trauma, self-esteem and identity, and any emerging patterns worth understanding early. We create a calm, respectful space where a young person feels heard. The result is a clearer sense of what’s happening and what kind of support will help most.

Children

For children, we explore emotional and behavioural concerns, worry and anxiety, and big or overwhelming feelings — and what might sit underneath them. We work closely with parents and, with your consent, can gather input from teachers for a fuller picture. Everything is done at the child’s pace, with warmth and care.

Worth knowing

An important note

The purpose of assessment is clarity that guides care. It sits alongside therapy and any medical or psychiatric treatment — it doesn’t replace them. A diagnosis is only ever a tool to help you get the right support, never a label that defines who you are. And if you’re struggling right now, please know support is available today — you don’t have to wait for an assessment to reach out.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a referral?+
No. You can enquire or book directly with us. If you’d like to access Medicare rebates for follow-up therapy later, we can explain how a GP referral and Mental Health Care Plan work.
Can psychologists prescribe medication?+
No. Psychologists assess, diagnose and provide therapy, and we work alongside your GP or psychiatrist. If medication might help, we can share our findings with your doctor to guide that conversation.
What if I’ve already had an assessment that didn’t feel right?+
That’s a common reason people come to us. We’re happy to offer a considered second opinion and take a fresh, thorough look at what’s going on.
Can children and teenagers be assessed?+
Yes. We assess children, adolescents and adults, and tailor the process to each stage of life. For younger clients we involve parents and, with consent, can include teacher input.
